How To Remove Cut Back Glue From Floors

Don't know if I'thousand in the correct identify to post this. I'm new - and so please forgive me if I'm in error. We are having to remove former Cutting Back Mucilage (Black) from our cement floors before installing the new Engineered Woods Floors. (Moisture Tests in progress). Does anyone know of the best, and safest style to remove this Cut Dorsum? Would you lot know of a good product to apply? Our contractor won't do it, so we have to try. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE Aid!

At that place is Cut Back nonetheless under our new Tiled Floors, but the people nosotros bought the Tile from said that their Thinset would piece of work fine with it and and that no problems volition arise. Hope they are RIGHT! This is non so with the wood floors. OH Homo!!!!!!

When I pulled up my one-time glued hardwood floors, I rented a drum sander from hd. That was past far the all-time matter i tried to remove the glue. I would not exercise this if you think the gum contains asbestos though.

Howdy Kate, Is your floor contractor maxim that the Cutback has to be removed? Will they glue it or is it a floating floor?
I accept cutback upwards with a razor bract. either vi" or 4" blade does well.
Cutback nether your tile should be removed to the point where it is just a faint grey - not black prior to setting your tile..

How To Remove Cut Back Glue From Floors

Nosotros have cement floors from which stick down tiles were removed. The contractor says this Cut Back Glue that remained, must be removed or it will cause problems with the gum they will use to glue the engineered wood. In that location may exist a moisture problem too, and if that is the case they volition "patch" the floor before they mucilage the new floor. He claims the Cutting Dorsum will cause the glue not to adhere over time if it's not removed. Is Cut Dorsum (Black Gum) the same as "mastic"? I have seen some liquid Mastic removers on the web that are even good if asbestos is in the glue. What do you lot think?

Kate, You can scarify the floors with a unit that tin be rented from Hard disk or Lowes. You need to take precautions in that y'all will be generating dust that may have asbestos in it and the scarifier will have a vacuum and y'all must be wearing a protective mask while creating this grit..
Mastic and Cutback are not the aforementioned matter..

What I take seen done is an applied membrane over the cut back then wood.
You volition never remove the cut back completely unless you lot apply a scarifier, but they are mostly gas powered and mot suitable for any interior work, the electrical ones are impossible to detect at the rental shop.
I have seen used mapei sm underlayment, it takes care of whatsoever moister issues also.
Exist very careful many cut backs are asbestos related, it's is not worth your health.
Now when I say I have seen sm used this does mot hateful they propose it. Merely I take removed some over cutback and the bond was as good as on concrete.
Check with them on that.
Or how about Bostik Best MVP systems, I don't know to much most that system.

Removing Cutback (black tile adhesive)

I am in the process of putting tile in a basement that had been tiled with cutback glue. I tried scraping, oestrus, and "green" cleaners. What finally worked is a product chosen 747 from Menards. It says information technology removes cutback right on the lablel. It is no picnic though. You spray the flooring with the stuff, let it sit xv-20 minutes, then scrape it with a 6 in razor scraper. This leaves a muck on the flooring like to engine sludge. Scrape that up with a dust pan and toss it. And then y'all spray the floor in modest sections and scrub it with a stiff brush. Finally y'all cover it with oil absorbant, let it sit, then sweep information technology upwards. It works great! But have to mop it with detergent and you accept a very clean floor. Roll your sleaves up, habiliment erstwhile clothes, and proficient luck!

Barry, we usually don't recommend using a solvent to remove cutback. Solvents tend to bulldoze the adhesive into the physical, potentially making a bond-breaking pic. Scraping the cutback with a razor until only a brownish stain remains, then using a cutback-rated thinset gives adequate results.

Agreed Barry. Watch 747. You have to utilize the accompanying cleaner 810 to remove the residue. I have too used kleen strip solvent based successfully, only I'm getting abroad from those types of products. After using the stripper, scrubbing with a wire brush, and cleaning, at that place is no adhesive or residue left and the physical readily absorbs water.
