I'm new - and so please forgive me if I'm in error. We are having to remove former Cutting Back Mucilage (Black) from our cement floors before installing the new Engineered Woods Floors. (Moisture Tests in progress). Does anyone know of the best, and safest style to remove this Cut Dorsum? Would you lot know of a good product to apply? Our contractor won't do it, so we have to try. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE Aid! At that place is Cut Back nonetheless under our new Tiled Floors, but the people nosotros bought the Tile from said that their Thinset would piece of work fine with it and and that no problems volition arise. Hope they are RIGHT! This is non so with the wood floors. OH Homo!!!!!! __________________ |

The contractor says this Cut Back Glue that remained, must be removed or it will cause problems with the gum they will use to glue the engineered wood. In that location may exist a moisture problem too, and if that is the case they volition "patch" the floor before they mucilage the new floor. He claims the Cutting Dorsum will cause the glue not to adhere over time if it's not removed. Is Cut Dorsum (Black Gum) the same as "mastic"? I have seen some liquid Mastic removers on the web that are even good if asbestos is in the glue. What do you lot think? __________________ |

You need to take precautions in that y'all will be generating dust that may have asbestos in it and the scarifier will have a vacuum and y'all must be wearing a protective mask while creating this grit.. __________________ |

I tried scraping, oestrus, and "green" cleaners. What finally worked is a product chosen 747 from Menards. It says information technology removes cutback right on the lablel. It is no picnic though. You spray the flooring with the stuff, let it sit xv-20 minutes, then scrape it with a 6 in razor scraper. This leaves a muck on the flooring like to engine sludge. Scrape that up with a dust pan and toss it. And then y'all spray the floor in modest sections and scrub it with a stiff brush. Finally y'all cover it with oil absorbant, let it sit, then sweep information technology upwards. It works great! But have to mop it with detergent and you accept a very clean floor. Roll your sleaves up, habiliment erstwhile clothes, and proficient luck! __________________ |

Solvents tend to bulldoze the adhesive into the physical, potentially making a bond-breaking pic. Scraping the cutback with a razor until only a brownish stain remains, then using a cutback-rated thinset gives adequate results. |

I have too used kleen strip solvent based successfully, only I'm getting abroad from those types of products. After using the stripper, scrubbing with a wire brush, and cleaning, at that place is no adhesive or residue left and the physical readily absorbs water. __________________ Last edited by Shawn Prentice; 02-04-2010 at 08:37 AM. |
